The customer chooses how to read replies
The language picker in the chat header applies to replies from your operators and AI assistant, including new replies as they arrive. Customers write their own messages as usual. Choosing a reading language does not rewrite what they sent.
A customer can also choose a language for a single reply using its Translate control. That choice takes precedence for that message. Changing the header language resets those individual choices, so the conversation follows the new selection. Choose Original to read the source text again.
Where browser storage is available, the widget remembers the visitor’s language choice for that project on that browser. It is a reading preference, rather than a change to your website’s language or the customer’s account.
A practical workflow for your support team
- A customer sends a question in their own language. Your operator sees the original message in the shared inbox.
- The operator selects Translate message beside the customer’s text. The translation appears beneath the original, where it can be shown or hidden.
- The operator writes a reply. The customer’s selected reading language controls how that reply appears in the widget.
Operator translation uses the operator’s browser language, with English as the fallback when the browser provides no usable language. It is requested per message, so a team member can translate the question they need without replacing the whole conversation. Plain attachment placeholders have no message text to translate.
42 language choices in the visitor picker
The widget offers these target languages, displayed with their native names in the picker:
Original is an additional option. These choices describe the text translation interface; they are not a promise of equal translation or speech quality for every language, dialect, or subject.
Original messages remain available
Translations are stored separately from the original message and reused for the same message and language when available. Switching a reading preference does not overwrite your conversation history. While a translation is being prepared, the widget shows a loading state; if translation fails, it displays the original text.
Keep important instructions in short messages. Translation currently processes up to 4,000 characters per message, so a long pasted document can produce an incomplete translated view. Confirm names, order numbers, dates, and specialist terms against the original when precision matters.
Voice input and listening are separate options
When voice input is enabled and microphone access is available, customers can send a recording. suppy.chat attempts to transcribe it for the conversation and saves the audio as an attachment. If transcription is unavailable, the message uses a voice-message label; if storing the recording fails, an available transcript can still carry the message.
When speech playback is enabled, Listen reads operator or assistant replies aloud. A selected translation is used for playback when available; if translation fails, playback can use the original. Speech reads up to 2,000 characters, so customers should read longer replies for the complete text.
Recording and playback depend on your project’s voice settings, browser capabilities, and configured speech services. Disabling the microphone feature does not by itself disable listening. Test real customer phrases in the languages you need before making voice part of a critical support workflow.
